On Thursday 29th September, between 1.00pm and 3.30pm, I will be giving a public lecture based on my book Boys Love Media in Thailand: Celebrity, Fans, and Transnational Asian Queer Popular Culture, for the International Program in Communication Design at Chulalongkorn University.
With a particular focus on the spread of BL into Thailand from Japan, and then the return of this form of popular culture back into Japan as a new “Thai” genre, the presentation explores the representational politics of BL, how and why it produces queer affects among its audiences, and what the rise of BL series can tell us about new cultures of celebrity in Thailand.
The lecture will be held at Room 3301, ID Building, Phayathai Road, Chulalongkorn University. If you wish to attend, the event is free, but please email Dr Brian Curtin first as places are limited. Dr Curtin may be reached at curtin [.] brian [@] gmail [.] com.
