It is with considerable excitement that I would like to announce that I will be joining a virtual online discussion symposium addressing the rise of Boys Love contents in Asia at the Taiwan International Queer Film Festival. The talk event – held on on October 13th 7-9pm GMT +8 (Taiwan time) – is free to attend and will be held in English with Chinese interpretation.
I will be in discussion with Thai director Chookiat Sakveerakul, the writer and director behind the pioneering queer films Love of Siam (2007) and Dew, Let’s Go Together (2019) and Thai BL series Manner of Death (2020), about the rise of BL media in Thailand.
Following this, Director Ivan Payawal of IdeaFirst Company and Director Tsai Mi-Chieh, the directors behind the smash-hit Philippine BL series Gameboys and the Taiwanese BL omnibus series HIStory respectively, will continue the discussion.
It is such an honour to be speaking with the directors and writers who have played such a crucial role in expanding Boys Love beyond the borders of Japan and transitioning the genre to a focus on live action. I’d like to thank the organisers of TQIFF for inviting me to join the discussion!
