On Friday 11th June, at 7pm Central US Standard Time, I will be presenting a talk and hosting a discussion at FujoCon concerning recent trends in Thai BL (Y Series). FujoCon’s mission statement is below:

Our mission is to share our love of BL with the global community and to connect fans with top BL creators, academics, and content. We provide adult fans and creators a safe and fun space to share art, cosplay, and panels with one another through a virtual environment. FujoCon brings the convention experience online–for free–so everyone, regardless of where you live, can experience a BL con from the safety of their own homes while we practice social distancing to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

My panel is entitled “Y Series Update: Unpacking the Latest in BL from Thailand.” It will be an interactive 18+ event focussed on discussion among fans and newbies alike. Here’s the blurb:

This panel surveys and explores new trends and developments in Thailand’s “Series Y” culture, also known as Thai Boys Love. Particularly, the panel draws on Dr Baudinette’s ongoing research to further consider how BL series are transforming Thailand’s media and how this is impacting fandom cultures across East and Southeast Asia. Part academic lecture, part fan talk, the panel introduces new series and “imaginary couples” to provide attendees an understanding of how Thai BL has evolved since FujoCon in 2020.
