K-Pop Fandom’s Role in Shaping Knowledge of Gender & Sexuality among LGBTQ+ Fans

Over the past year, I have delivered many talks outlining the outcomes of my Academy of Korean Studies funded project “Exploring K-pop Fandom as a Space for LGBT Support in the Asia-Pacific During Pandemic Times” (AKS-2022-R033). These talks have largely been in-person and up until now, I haven’t been able to share them with my colleagues and the general public… until now, that is!

In early October, I delivered this lecture at the Korean Studies Research Hub at Monash University and they have now made a version of it available on their YouTube channel. I also delivered a version of this as a keynote at the University of Buffalo in late November. (The recording at Monash is, however, a shorter version of what I delivered in the US).

You can watch it here!

There is a short video excerpt embedded into this recording which, unfortunately, failed to capture (although it does have audio). To watch that excerpt (roughly 2 minutes), with English subtitles, please click through below (it should start at 7:38):
